Let’s go to PUERTO DE LA CRUZ, TENERIFE with kid(s) !

Hola Puerto de la Cruz … Rise and shine sunshine, we are about to start today’s adventure. As usually, we are gonna start the day with breakfast. Todays plan is to look around the most important sights of the town, and for that we need a healthy energy shot in the morning (kids listen to your parents, breakfast really is the most important meal of the day 😉 ). After yesterdays great experience where little Tin The Traveler did an amazing job exploring Loro parque through out the day without even taking the afternoon nap (and he managed the same thing the day before that, on a 15-hour trip – frankly I got tired of everything) I’m hoping that we’ll have the same scenario today. Cause to see and explore everything we planned today we really do need the whole day.

For starters here are some basic information about our host town … Puerto de la Cruz is located on the north-western (ok North West just came to my mind ☺ ) side of the island and this is the place where you can find more natives than on southern part of the island. Its known for its tourism, banana production, and lately less and less for its fishing. This is the “greener“ part of the island. Walking through the town streets you can notice the difference between the old part of the town, with narrow picturesque streets with plazas, churches, natives, bigger chance to experience traditional food, and modern district where you can find tones of apartments, resorts, swimming pools, architectural miracles and similar „gadgets“ of massive tourism.

//

Even though it’s not the sunniest part of the day, it’s very pleasant and you can without any obstacle toss your legs to ocean or at least enjoy the beauty of the beach … trust me, kids are gonna love black warm sand, which feels like walking on a warm chocolate pudding (ok sand like sand, but I’m Tenerife fascinated, so let’s just leave it at that) and if the kids are small and you brought sand playing tool with you …  You can really really enjoy here (you can buy a sand playing kit at every corner so never mind if you don’t have it with you, but then again maybe you are not ready for the consequences of sand playing or you didn’t bring extra clothes so ignore this idea). Swimming is not an option today since it’s pretty windy and the waves are about 5 meters tall, but never mind, surfers enjoy that.

//

Kupanje danas na plaži baš i nije moguće jer puše vjetrić i valovi su i preko 5 metara but never mind, surferi uživaju.

After Jardin beach (the sun finally decided to cooperate fully) we got to the Lake Martianez complex which are in fact artificially built pool complex with ocean water. There used to be a lack of natural beaches where people could enjoy sun and sunbathing and swimming, so Cesar Manrique decided to design this architectonical miracle which is consider to be the biggest contemporary art museum with pools in Europe. The complex really is breath taking during the day and especially during the night and surely is a „must see“ thing in Puerto de la Cruz. The great thing is that it’s right next to the main walking trail of the town and it’s close to a whole bunch of restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets and anything else you could need. They are a great choice to freshen up on a hot day but let me just say that the water is pretty cold (ocean) so we skipped swimming. After sightseeing, walking around and a necessary dance which also became a tradition, cause little senor just can not pass by somebody playing an instrument and not participating at least a bit in a show … we keep on going …

//

Enchantment with the Lake Martianez is still on a high level, while we approach to the Martianez beach … Another beautiful beach with black sand … soft, soft warm sand which is a delight to walk on … and the view …  THE VIEW … ☺ of course that we had to take a little walk through the fountain cause little boss decided that is the right thing to do at this moment … a bit of leg soaking , a bit of playing in the sun with sand, spiced up with a beautiful view and there she comes … hunger … We’ll grab a quick bite at Mc Donalds (I know, shame on us, but this is pretty rare so I guess it’s ok ) because we don’t want to lose much time since we’re only at the half of today’s plans (and usually kids really hate Mc Donadls, and they’ll be probably crying their eyes out for some vegetables ☺ )

//

Očaranost Lago Martianezom nastavljamo i kratkom laganom šetnjom dolazimo do plaže Martianez …

Feeding – checked, a quick cup of coffee and an ice cream at the main walking alley and we are headed to the Puerto de la Cruz’s main square, Plaza el Charco. Before the plaza we did a quick look at  the church Nuestra Senora de Pena de Francia … The plaza is a cute small square surrounded with restaurants, coffee shops and souvenir shops … You should surely get something … The fact is that it’s most acceptable to buy souvenir at china shop … and they have the largest choice …  so you can literally buy all kinds of Tenerife souvenirs but also Paris or New York souvenir, statue of Buda or a venecian carneval mask, and I believe if you would put some more effort into it you could easily find Vegeta or Kraš cookies (croatian domestic products) … But one thing I really didn’t figure out why … is why everything is full of this kinds of souvenirs …  Dick ( pardon my french but I just don’t have any other expression for this at this moment) charms, dick magnets, dick bottle openers … d..k, d..k, d..k … So if someone please has an explanation, please enlighten me. Ok we got ourselves the souvenirs … Decent ones, trust me, and it’s time for playground situated on the Plaza el Charco … Tin Tin was very good during the whole day so he gets to decide what are we gonna do with the rest of our day … So playground it is …

//

Ok suveniri kupljeni … Pristojni vjerujte… So playground it is …

After a day filled with walking, sightseeing, beaches, churches, souvenirs, squares, lakes and things …  there comes a rebellion of our empty bellies …  and who’d be better to solve that problem than a dear old friend PAELLA … yum yum …

//

Dakle cjelodnevni hod, plaže, trgovi, crkve,suveniri i slično, rezultirali su pobunom gladnih trbuščića i tko bolji za utažiti glad od dobre stare prijateljice , njenog veličanstva PAELLE … mljac njam, mljac njam …

img_20170221_130744
