It is Monday … It is a holiday in Croatia … It is raining … It is not that weird cause … It is autumn … Ooooh come on, a slight of rain won’t ruin this day … Packing our things and we’re off to Hrvatska Kostajnica cause there’s a chestnut fest this weekend … There’s no rain that a good chestnut cake wouldn’t brighten up … So lets first locate where are we headed to … Hrvatska Kostajnica is about 85 km away from Zagreb.

//

Hrvatska Kostajnica is a town in the region of Banovina in Sisačko – moslavačka county. It is located in the heart of Croatian “pounje”, right below the Zrinski mountain. The city was built in the island on the river Una, but most of the town is down the left side of the river, and crossing over the bridge close to city centre there you are in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The cities name comes from a word “kostanj” which is an old croatian word for chestnut. For more info about Hrvatska Kostajnica click here.

After walking down the town and visiting the Zrinski fortress we reccommend you to visit park and wood named Djed (meaning Grandpa) where you can find a Djed restaurant. There’s a beautiful view down to Kostajnca from here, the nature is beautiful, the staff was polite, and there’s  a nice park for children right next to the restaurant so it makes this an ideal place for a family meal.

//
