Let’s go to POREČ/PARENZO, CROATIA with kid(s) !

We visited Istralandia in our last post and here we are, still in Istria. This time our choice was Poreč. The whole region of Istria is pretty beautiful so it was quite hard to decide where to spend that one day that we have left after visiting Istralandia. I have to admit that I fell in love with this region irretrievably and I attend to pay her much more attention in the future. So, Poreč it is. I’ve visited Poreč a long long time ago, on my elementary school excursion ( but since your life priorities are a bit different at that stage of life…) I was as happy to see it again as if I never have visited it before. We arrived at the center of the city at around 10 am, parked our car ( the city has 3 parking zones so the price variates depending on the zone) and the first thing that he saw getting out of the car was children playground … Shit … There goes at least an hour … 🙂 … Surprisingly it took us less time (surprisingly = one ice cream and a bunch of other possible and impossible things promised) … And now frankly, the park is located in a beautiful woods right next to the main beach and only a few minutes walking distance from the Poreč Marina … Awesome …

U prošlom postu smo Vas vodili u Istralandiju i evo nas još uvijek u Istri. Dakle, Poreč it is. Shit … ode sat vremena minimalno … 🙂 … Nekom ludom srećom je to trajalo iznenađujuće kratko … (luda sreća = obećan sladoled i niz kojekakvih mogućih i nemogućih ćudesa) … Prekrasno …

After Marina, we took a nice walk down the town promenade and got to the center of old town Poreč … This is the right time to tell you more about this charming town. Poreč is located on the west coast of the Istrian peninsula. After Pula it’s the most inhabited town of Istria. It lays on 29 m height above the sea, the town which is almost 2000 years old, is located in the port which has been protected by the small island of St Nicolas. It has approximately 10.500 residents and most of them lives in the suburbs. It has gentle climate with no summer swelters. The landscape has rich mediterranean undergrowth, with pine woods and green underbush. The soil contains red fertile ground with rocks. The old town has preserved the street layout of the old Roman castrum. The main streets Decumanus and Cardo Maximus are still preserved in their original looks.

Tlo čini plodna crvena zemlja, crljenica, zajedno s kamenjem. Stari je grad sačuvao raspored ulica starorimskog castruma. Glavne su ulice Decumanus i Cardo Maximus još sačuvane u izvornom drevnom obliku.

Marafor is a Roman square (forum) with two temples. One of them, which was built in the 1. century was dedicated to the roman God Neptun, it was 30m wide and 11 meters long. A few houses from the Roman times are still preserved ( the Roman house on Marafor), and a few beautiful Venetian gothic palaces. The Istrian hall, which was really a franciscan gothic church from 13. century, was reconstructed in 18. century in a baroque style.

The Euphrasian basilica komplex that dates in 5. century, and is located at the spot of the origin church, was first expanded in the 6. century under Byzantine and the bishop Euphrasie, and it represents the most valuable cultural memorial of Poreč, and it’s been pronounced and protected by UNESCO in 1997 as the world cultural heritage. But we’ll take you to Euphrasian basilica on our next post.

//

No u Eufrazijevu baziliku Vas vodimo u našem sljedećem postu.

We’ve seen it all … Haven’t we, haven’t we, haven’t we … ? It’s beach time, right … ? And there he is … He made his point … And frankly we really could use a break … And right now I can’t remember a better way to take a little pause than the beach …

//

Sve smo vidjeli … Jelda, jelda, jelda … ? Jelda da je vrijeme za plažu … ? I eto “he made his point” …
