Let’s go to PARK MAKSIMIR, CROATIA with kid (s) !

It’s Sunday. Morning. Most of the people we know are chasing their last days or weekends on the coast. That is why Zagreb is so empty and kinda lonely. The proof to that is the fact that you can park your car whenever you want wherever you want in the center of the city (which is not that bad, we could get used to that). Anyways today’s choice is not the center of the city, we are headed to nature. To be more specific to Park-wood Maksimir. Even though we don’t live in the center of the city and we have nature all around us on a daily basis, Maksimir is a place we often gladly visit (cause of its beauty, nature, woods, lakes, flora and fauna, zoo or some other event). So let’s take a little walk around the park.

//

Traditionally we’re going to start with a few basic info about the park. Founded in 1787, Maksimir Park was the first large public park in South-Eastern Europe. The park was opened in 1794 under the initiative of the man for whom it was named, bishop Maksimilijan Vrhovac of Zagreb (1752–1827). In 1839. it was redesigned by bishop Juraj Haulik. Architectural objects in the park are the work of Franjo Schücht. There’s 316 hectare of preserved flora and fauna in the park , with 5 lakes ( natural and artificial). On the southern part of the park there’s Zagreb Zoo. The name of the park is also the name of the neighborhood around the park and to the stadium of the football club Dinamo Zagreb (which is right across the street from the main entrance to the park). There’s a 600 years old lucerne oak in the park called “Dedek”.

The things you should visit while staying in park :

  • Swiss house (built in 1842., renovated in 2005.),
  • Vidikovac, built in 1843.,
  • Pavilion Jeka (built in 1840., renovated in 2001.),
  • Chapel of  st. Juraj (built in  1880.).
  • Mogila

  • Kapela sv. Jurja (sagrađena 1880.).
  • Mogila, uzdignuti humak, podignut u spomen tisuću godišnjice Hrvatskog kraljevstva 1925. godine i to od zemlje i kamena iz svih naselja i povijesnih mjesta u Hrvatskoj i svijetu gdje žive Hrvati.

If you’re visiting Zagreb with kids, Maksimir offers a great playground for kids in the middle of the wood.

Ako ste u Zagrebu s klincima u Maksimiru možete posjetiti odličan dječji parkić usred šume.

Step by step our walk through the park got to it’s end. Of course we have to buy a baloon or something similar to bribe our little boss to have some lunch. This was a nice nice Sunday morning, hope you enjoyed our Maksimir story.

//
