Let’s go to JELENOV GREBEN, OLIMJE, SLOVENIA with kid(s) !

Jelenov Greben … It’s been on my wishlist for quite some time now … In fact as soon as I saw something about this place, it got itself on the top of my wishlist … So here we are visiting this charming place … Long story short, Jelenov Greben is located in a small Slovenian village Olimje which is right next to Croatian border (Kumrovec) and its about an hour and a half from Zagreb. You don’t need a vignette coming from Zagreb. After we came to Olimje our GPS offered us two different routes and after not paying attention we’ve chosen the wine route which I wouldn’t recommend cause it’s quite narrow and full of serpentines, so I’d recommend the route that we used while coming back. And when you get to the Greben there’s a beautiful view towards the famous Monastery .

Jelenov Greben …

Let me tell you a story about Jelenov Greben … This is a family business which was af first oriented to winery and cattle growing. Mr Borut being hardly 18 years old at the time decided to change the family business and imports 70 deers from Briuni and that’s how this charming story starts. Jezovnik family was, and still is, in mushroom, apple and homemade products business. Even though Mr Borut is still the chief we find out that Mrs Jezovnik is really in charge along with their 3 daughters after who the pensions and wellness is named (Rebeka, Karolina, Lara). Jelenov Greben offers a restaurant, pensions, wellness, wedding reception hall, planetarium, winery, souvenir shop and most importantly a chance to be in touch with this beautiful animals. So lets find them…

//

Priča o Jelenovom Grebenu ide ovako nekako …

// Right at the entry to the complex.

As soon as we got in, he became inpatient cause “You told me there’ll be deers and where are they now?”. With him nagging around we decided to look around and see what they offer.

//

// We found a planetarium which works during the weekend.

We didn’t see any animal so we decided it would be best to take a little break with coffee and tea and to find out everything we were interested in. We got into the restaurant where we found a very polite lady who told us that she’ll call the animals as soon as we want to (we found out later that it was Karolina one of the owners daughters).

//

And really, after a cozy break, with a very good service and a polite staff, Karolina gives us a bucket with corn and takes us a few meters from the restaurant and calls “Piiikaaaa… Piiiikiii…” and there they are in a second… I don’t even have to mention how thrilled the kids were… All kinds of animals… But not a single deer there… Seems that we’ll need to make some more effort to this…

//

I zaista nakon ugodnog predaha uz, moram naglasiti, super uslugu i ljubazno osoblje, Karolina nam daje kanticu s kukuruzom i vodi nas par metara od ulaza u restoran te pozvecka tom kanticom i vikne “Piiikaaaa … Piiiikiiii …” i evo ih u sekundi …

They are so gentle that they eat right from your hand…

//

Toliko su pitomi da jedu iz ruke …

“Mum … His nose is so wet and warm … And all dirty, and I’m so dirty…” says Tin while smiling and being thrilled with the situation…

“Mamaaaa … Njuškica mu je mokra i topla … i sva prljava, sav sam zaprljan …” s oduševljenjem i uz konstantno jurcanje govori malac …

I’m not sure how much time did we spend enjoying the animals but it was time to grab some lunch at the restaurant I mentioned before… You can find all kinds of interesting things there but we decided to try the deer stew out (8€) which is served very interesting , and the kids ate Strukli (4€)… Drinks are about 2 €. The food was very delicious so we decided after charging our batteries and our bellies that we’ll try to find deers one more time… Rudolphs or Bambies if you ask us…

//

After watching the nature and a little river with lots of animals I’m a bit disappointed cause there’s no deer… Well ok… More luck next time, and so we turn around and we’re heading back to the parking area… And there he is… A few meters away from us… He’s soooo beautiful…

//

I evooo gaaa …

Happy and thrilled after mingling with the deer we decided it was time to go to Terme Olimia also in Olimje. But he noticed a childrens playground so we had to stop there.

//

We highly recommend Jelenov Greben, it is beautiful even now during the winter… Can you even imagine how beautiful it is during spring when everything is so beautiful and green … Actually you don’t have to imagine that you can check that out on their website or Facebook page.

//

Stay tuned … New adventures coming up soon … :*
